Day Services

Babcock Center provides day services to 660 individuals.  Day services include supported employment and center-based services.  Supported employment services provide opportunities for employment and on-the-job training.  These services also develop related skills such as money management, use of public transportation and social development.   Center-based services develop employment, social and personal care skills.

Industrial Services

Industrial Services (IS) is a division of Babcock Center that was developed to help adults with developmental disabilities enter into the work force thus providing a previously untapped source of labor for the business community. Industrial Services training programs emphasize quality, efficiency, and productivity. Vocational opportunities are provided for workers through a variety of methods. These include in-house contracts, industrial woodshop, mobile grounds maintenance, janitorial crews, workstations at various industries, and competitive job placement. Staff with special expertise are available to advise on production layouts, fixtures, and quality development. The Industrial Staff provide free bids, and are available at the customers convenience. IS provides Babcock Center Vocational Supports Programs with a variety of in-house contracts. These include sorting, collating, bulk mailing, and the assembly of a variety of industrial products. The industrial woodshop provides local contractors and construction companies with surveyor stakes (flats, hubs, triangles, and special orders) at competitive prices. Additionally, they produce rebar for local surveyors. Mobile work crews are contracted throughout the community to perform grounds and janitorial maintenance. Work Stations or enclaves consist of a team of individuals from the Vocational Supports work force and a staff supervisor. IS can provide an instant work force to complete the demands of the customer.  IS supervises and pays all its workers, and provides all necessary liability and worker's compensation insurance. Several current work stations include recycling stations, hotels, and several local industrial businesses. Job Training and Placement Services places our workers in competitive employment in the community.  On site job coaches provide free on the job training for individuals that are placed on the job. Transportation

Babcock Center also provides transportation to employment, center-based programs, medical appointments and community activities. Transportation services are provided to more than 500 individuals by a fleet of 135 vehicles.

Residential Services

Babcock Center is the largest private provider of residential services for people with disabilities in South Carolina. More than 500 individuals receive residential services through supervised living programs, community training homes and community residences. Supervised living programs serve adults capable of independence. Individuals live in apartments, duplexes and other housing. Supervision and support services are provided according to individual need.  Community training homes offer a home like environment with the supervision of a trained caregiver. They provide individual care, supervision and training. Community residences resemble single family homes in local neighborhoods. They provide 24-hour care, supervision, counseling, recreation and other activities

Referrals and Service Coordination

Service coordination and referrals are managed by the Richland/Lexington Disabilities and Special Needs Board. Service coordinators help individuals and families identify needs and to develop a plan of services to meet those needs.
