Babcock Center, Inc. is a private, nonprofit organization founded in 1970, serving men and women with developmental and related lifelong disabilities, autism, and head and spinal cord injury.

Our motto is 'promoting abilities by respecting choice.'

Our mission is to empower and support each individual to fulfill his or her potential.

People with lifelong disabilities are a vital part of our community. Babcock Center provides them with the training and skills necessary for their personal success–making them contributors to Columbia’s economic growth. Babcock Center operates 105 facilities and employs more than 1,200 people throughout the Midlands.

We provide residential and vocational support to more than 1,100 individuals with mental retardation, autism, spinal cord and head injuries and related lifelong disabilities. At Babcock Center, we believe that all people have the right to choose how they learn, live, work and play.

2010 Employee of the Year Nominations

In preparation for the 2010 awards banquet, we are accepting nominations of individuals within our organization who work tirelessly on behalf of the people we support and deserve recognition.

The DEADLINE for nominations is AUG. 6, 2010. Unfortunately, we will be unable to accept any nomination forms that are returned after the deadline.

Disability Advocacy Day

Disability Advocacy Day will be held on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at the State House.  Our unifying message is “Services for individuals with disabilities CANNOT take any more cuts”. Please encourage anyone you know to convey this message to their legislator.   Our goal is to have all legislators contacted during November and December.  Ask them to tell their personal story and how cuts have and will affect them personally. 

Dog Gift Baskets


Are you looking for a special gift for that special pup in your life?  Well we’ve got the gift for you!   Each Friday in the month of October our Work Activity Center ’s will be showcasing and selling our Dog Gift Baskets at the Fall Main Street Market Place held on Boyd Plaza and the Sidewalk portion along the 1500 block of Main Street beside the Columbia Museum of Art. 

  Our dog baskets are featured in a variety of colors, sizes and include treats and toys for our furry friends.  Pricing ranges from $8.00 - $10.00.  Please come out and show your support (look for us under the USC Tent).
